Entropy

A recent MacLean’s article discussed how much of the slow, but very positive, progress in Afghanistan is being overshadowed by the deaths of troops. The actions of people trying to help rebuild and stabilize a nation are made invisible by the media’s focus on the destructive acts of a few.

Give the article a read, and decide for yourself if the positive gains outweigh the costs to the western nations involved.

Entropy: A measure of disorder or randomness in a system. The 2nd law of thermodynamics states any spontaneous change is accompanied by an overall increase in entropy overall.  You need to introduce energy to a system in order to reduce entropy (i.e. disorder).
